Testimonial "Volunteering work to combat unemployment"

Imagine
What if… you wake up in the morning and you have zero idea where you are… there are just two possibilities for people like you… You just woke up in the heaven for all the help you provided for people in need during your career as a volunteer… or the second option is you are discovering another piece of Universe Youth in Action and today is the first day of project. So, you jump out of the bed and practice in front of the mirror sentences like „my name is… Favorite color – yes blue as well“, deleting 3% of your memory to remember 18 new multi-culti names, bright smile on the face and you are pretty ready for the getting know each other session…  It wouldn’t be the training focused on fighting unemployment with volunteering when it would have usual structure – so don’t be surprised when you instead of typical activities find yourself sitting with another participants in the tram KISSing ( Keep It Short and Simple way ) each other just with basic information about yourself... Don’t

Seminar in Czech Republic

Imagine
Between 20-26 November 2013, SUPER TINERI is participating in the project "Volunteering work to combat unemployment", organized by Educator in Ostrava, Czech Republic.  The project is about exploring the possibilities of promoting and engaging the youth in voluntary work that would help young people to face the unemployment, poverty and lack of education and professional development. Simplifying the project is about the connection between volunteering and employability.  The Romanian participants are Mihaela Diana Podariu, Daniel Petruneac and Costin Chirica.  Today it was the first day and we entered directly in the world of local NGOs. At 8.50 we went to visit Charity Ostrava. We were amazed by their work and the great impact in different types of "clients" in need.  In the afternoon, after knowing each other, we participated in 2 nonformal activities, in order to work in teams and share our knowledge about volunteering.  Firstly we had the task to

From Romania, the partners are: Asociaţia SUPER TINERI ASIRYS, Asociaţia  Culturală  Actus  Dramatikus, Asociaţia Edumond şi  Asociatia  “Ecologie - Sport -  Turism”.  In a time when hundreds of millions of pictures are taken every day with smart phones and uploaded without any selection on the social platforms, we feel the need for a stronger awareness of the power of images. Our TC aims at giving youth leaders and their NGO’s a set of tools to promote a better understanding of Photography, a stronger awareness of the Image Culture and communication codex and practical hints on how to use higher level photography to involve youth in NGO’s activities and social campa

Testimonial: First Aid project in Cappadocia!

Imagine
Andreea participated between 19-26 august, in the youth exchange: “It's not over till it's over”, organized in Turkey, Kırşehir (Cappodocia), in which our organization was partner. This article is her testimonial regarding the project!   And we’re off to... Turkey, to participate in a youth project about First Aid. The road was long but it wasn't boring at all. Istanbul Ataturk Airport has a huge line until you get to passport control As we passed, one face attract my attention. After the girl passed by us four times, the 5th time I asked her if she was also going with SUPER TINERI in a project in Turkey, because she looked familiar. Lucky me, her answer was yes, and so, another Romanian member joined me and Ioana. After 30 minutes the boys also came, and we were trying to find our guide, but that was almost impossible because there were a lot of people who were waiting for somebody. At one point, I don’t know how and why, the Czech people (I think they have specia

The Turkish way – “It’s not over ‘till it’s over”

Imagine
Ioana participated between 19-26 august, in the youth exchange: “It's not over till it's over”, organized in  Turkey, Kırşehir (Cappodocia), in which our organization was partner. This article is her testimonial regarding the project!  An interesting project can only gather great people, so the extraordinary experience was inevitable. Through this project, the Asirys Association has not only offered us vital information about the correct first aid techniques, but it has helped us develop in an intercultural environment.  We knew from the beginning that we only have one week together, so we had to take advantage of our time. Our Turkish hosts started with some games meant to make us know each other better, but it was almost impossible to memorize 40 new weird names (although we had no problem with the two Czech guys named Tom and Jerry, for obvious reasons). Anyway, we managed to find some nicknames and we solved the problem.  As human beings, we had to spend

Entrevista con Carlos Andres Alvarado Jimenez

Imagine
ASIRYS: Hola! Como estas? Carlos: Muy bien gracias.

A story across the Prut River

Imagine
During the period 13th to 20th July 2013, at Vadu' lui Voda (Republic of Moldova, near the Nistru River), it was held the "Youth Participation as a way of change" training. Everything has been designed and analyzed around the activities of young people and how they can become active citizens, responsible, able to understand the role and the need for them to become part of a civilized society. The project had participants from eight countries (Romania, Rep.of  Moldova, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Denmark, Latvia, Germany). Being a diverse geographical identity and belonging, discussions and meetings were held sometimes pulsed difference of opinions. Even in this context, which often is not easy to manage (euroscepticism, interpreted differently democratic values, national identity, personal history of each participant's knowledge) have made possible to have a wealth of ideas, attitudes and controversies. If I say that the project was a godsend, I would

Survival guide: A vegetarian vampire in Turkey

Imagine
Once upon a time... a vegetarian vampire arrived in Turkey for a youth exchange, with ASIRYS . And since then, her life was never the same... How one sees Turkey from above... My first youth exchange began somewhere over Gaziantep, Turkey.  We were all looking on the plane window, trying to figure out where we have reached. From up there it definitely looked like a challenge. And here it was: Let’s talk about women’s rights in Turkey . We have tried them all: from dancing Vals to hanging fruits in trees and all this to prove a point: that women have rights as well, regardless of country. I am proud to have represented my country and describe the women’s current situation in Romania. We have also shared a significant part of our culture with the others. Romanian dances are never a bad choice!  And because we were not cautions, the participants come to know our real vampire identity... Is getting dangerous... But things are not over here...   What fishes and

Why ReDiscover Romania? A Canadian perspective...

Imagine
A Canadian’s Observations on Romania  Gelaine Santiago At the end of June, it will be almost 2 months since I first arrived in Romania and began my internship. Despite my 4 years in AIESEC and the travel preparation beforehand – mainly consisting of hours spent on Google and Wikipedia, reading about Romanian culture, language, politics, education, and all things Eastern European – life in Romania has been much more challenging, confusing, frustrating, and more amazing than I could ever have expected. First things first – what am I actually doing in Romania?  I came here with AIESEC’s Global Community Development Programme (GCDP) and I am working at a non-profit organization called Super Tineri ASIRYS. ASIRYS has largely operated out of the small town of Tirgu Frumos since 2008, and has recently expanded its operations into Pascani. As the Director of Organizational Development, I am largely responsible for establishing the new chapter of the NGO,  and essentially restr
